If one of your resolutions for 2011 involves increasing the eco-friendly
aspects of your lifestyle, then The Roving Home's recycled pencils will
get you off to a great start. What better way to begin the new year
than by writing down your goals and aspirations with a crisp set of of
freshly-sharpened pencils? And the best thing about these particular
pencils is that they bring a little of the past with them, as they're
made of newspapers wrapped tightly around a graphite center. Sharpened
just like regular pencils, these come in sets of 12 and are cool,
functional, and earth-friendly. You could hardly ask more of your
pencil that that.
Christmas in Rockport includes sights such as this wreath, crafted from tiny brussel sprouts, woodsy berries and fresh greens. A lovely color set against the aubergine door. More about the wreath here.
During the holidays it's especially nice to have The Roving Home based in New England, where many of the iconic images we associate with Christmas originated. (Ever been to the village of Stockbridge, Massachusetts? Norman Rockwell did not oversell its charm in his paintings.) Check out the latest post from The Roving Home blog to read more...
Why would you want to decorate with an old map? The information you
find on it is usually inaccurate. Place names and borders seemingly
change all the time - thus the never ending need for new maps. But yet
the old ones manage to retain such appeal. Why is this? For one
thing, it's the strong graphics, usually in the style of whatever era
in which the map was designed. For another, it's the atmosphere of the
past that is conveyed by an old map - a sense of history, of a place
and time before our own. At The Roving Home, we love our vintage
school maps and always have at least a few on hand. They are great
conversation pieces with endless graphic appeal. We should know, as a
few are hanging in our own home, including the original version of this one.
